Knifty Knitter Socks
YOU WILL NEED:
Blue 24-peg KK loom
Pick and darning needle
150 - 250 grams of bulky yarn
Yarn amount varies with foot size & cuff length. One 5 oz. ball of Wool Ease Thick-n-Quick will make the 10-inch long pair shown here.
An excellent wool/alpaca blend is 2 balls of Jay by Goddess Yarns.
For narrow feet, or for a child, try a tight flat stitch every few or all stitches,
or use a feltable wool yarn, and knit your slipper about 20-30% longer, since it will shrink lenthwise after
felting, and about 10-15% in width.
ABBREVIATIONS
e-wrap: standard peg wrapping method as described in the instruction pamphlet
short row: wrapping and knitting a partial number of pegs in the round
 |
CUFF:
For above socks, e-wrap 10 rows, then make a hat brim as shown in the KK instructions.
Ribbing is also a nice cuff that
fits more snugly around the ankle, especially when a longer leg portion is desired.
ANKLE:
E-wrap 5 rows (as above) or more rows
if you like longer socks.
HEEL
FLAP: Make 4 short rows, by e-wrapping pegs 1 thru 12 back and forth, using the 1st
& 12th pegs as turning pegs (do not wrap a second loop on those pegs when they are the first peg to wrap in a row), just like in the KK
booklet for flat panels.
Your
sock should now look like the photo.

TURN
HEEL: Your free yarn should be at peg 1. Now take the loop on
peg 12, and place it on peg 11. These will count as 1 loop. Now
e-wrap your yarn to peg 11, and knit those pegs as usual. With
free yarn now at peg 11, take the loop on peg 1 and place it on peg 2.
These will count as 1 loop. Now e-wrap your yarn to peg 2, and knit them
as usual. With
free yarn now at peg 2, take the loop on peg 11 and place it on peg 10.
These will count as 1 loop. Now e-wrap your yarn to peg 10, and knit
them as usual.

 |
With
free yarn now at peg 10, take the loop on peg 2 and place it on peg 3.
These will count as 1 loop. Now e-wrap your yarn to peg 3, and knit them
as usual. With
free yarn now at peg 3, take the loop on peg 10 and place it on peg 9.
These will count as 1 loop. Now e-wrap your yarn to peg 9, and knit them
as usual. With
free yarn now at peg 9, take the loop on peg 3 and place it on peg 4.
These will count as 1 loop. Now e-wrap your yarn to peg 4, and knit them
as usual. Your
sock should look like the photo. |

You
will have 3 open pegs on each side of your heel. Reach inside the loom,
and evenly distribute the stitches along the edge of the heel, placing them onto the empty pegs, including 1
peg on either side of the empty pegs 4, 9, 13, and 24 which will now have 2 loops
to knit off as 1 loop.
Photo shows how your knitting should looks once the left side of the heel
stitches are placed onto the loom. |
 |
Peg
4 is now the beginning peg. You can return using peg 1 as your beginning peg, if you like, by simply knitting your first round to peg 1 only,
then continue knitting in the round until you
reach your desired foot length. Remove
by sewing yarn through each peg's loop, and draw up tightly and tie. |
